March Script of the Month

Joan Digba

March’s Script of the Month, as selected by the WGC IDEA Committee, is Daughter of Mine, an original one-hour supernatural drama written by Joan Digba.

Joan Digba is a Nigerian-born, British-bred Canadian whose multifaceted perspective informs her storytelling. She crafts stories with imaginative visuals, rich world building, and emotionally connective moments. With her background producing commercials, Joan is a creative problem solver, skilled at sourcing, leading and collaborating with the best creative partners. When she’s not writing, she’s watching anime, traveling or rediscovering the beauty of the world with her daughter.

"When I first read Joan Digba's Daughter of Mine, I was struck by the story's imagination and heart,” says WGC member Chris Roberts who worked with Joan to polish the script. “I've always loved grounded fantasy with a fresh perspective, and Joan's script offers a surprising take on childhood friendship, family bonds, and historical trauma while constructing a unique mythos that promises intrigue and scares in equal measure."

“I'm excited that Daughter of Mine has been selected as Script of the Month!” says Joan. “This supernatural family drama scrutinizes the idea that perfection can protect one's family from a world hostile to intersecting identities. I hope it grabs the eye of producers who are looking for a limited series, or who are looking for a versatile writer in their writing rooms. I bring heart, imagination, and a dash of gallows humour to balance out my contemplative nature.”

Congratulations, Joan!
