2025 Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize Nominations Closed

thank you award nominations closed

On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Guild will hold the 29th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards honouring excellence in screenwriting. Nominations for all awards, including the Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize, are now closed.

  • The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize: Named in honour of Jim Burt's lifelong commitment to championing Canadian writers, this prize was created to continue his work in recognizing and nurturing long-form talent. The winning screenplay is determined by a jury, which selects the best unproduced long-form script of the quality Jim championed. The total prize is worth $5,000 - a $3,000 cash prize, and $2,000 for an experienced story editor (approved by the jury) to further develop the winner’s script.

Please contact Naomi at [email protected] if you have any questions about the Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize or the Special Awards.
