special award nominations open

On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Guild will hold the 29th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards honouring excellence in screenwriting.

DON'T DELAY! Nominations are open from Tuesday, October 1, until Tuesday, November 12, at 5 pm ET for the following special award:

  • The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize: Named in honour of Jim Burt's lifelong commitment to championing Canadian writers, this prize was created to continue his work in recognizing and nurturing long-form talent. The winning screenplay is determined by a jury, which selects the best unproduced long-form script of the quality Jim championed. The total prize is worth $5,000 - a $3,000 cash prize, and $2,000 for an experienced story editor (approved by the jury) to further develop the winner’s script. Apply here.

The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize is open to all members of the Writers Guild of Canada, as well as non-members who meet the eligibility criteria.

The nomination deadline is November 12, 2024.
