On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Guild will hold the 29th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards honouring excellence in screenwriting. Nominations for all awards, including the Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize, are now closed.
- The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize: Named in honour of Jim Burt's lifelong commitment to championing Canadian writers, this prize was created to continue his work in recognizing and nurturing long-form talent. The winning screenplay is determined by a jury, which selects the best unproduced long-form script of the quality Jim championed. The total prize is worth $5,000 - a $3,000 cash prize, and $2,000 for an experienced story editor (approved by the jury) to further develop the winner’s script.
