Incentives
The Writers Guild offers the following incentives* to attract new members, allowing them to join without a contract signed under a WGC collective agreement however, once a writer has joined the Guild, they must only accept work after signing a contract with a producer signatory to a WGC agreement.
Membership Incentive for Diverse Writers
The Guild offers, for a limited time, an incentive to any Canadian resident writer with at least two writing contracts signed within the past two years with a Canadian producer and who self-identify under any of the following categories: people of colour, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. The Writers Guild of Canada will waive the initiation fee of $350 for any writer meeting these requirements. As part of this offer, the Guild is also waiving the initiation fee for any Canadian resident writer who self-identifies under one of the above diversity categories and who qualifies for membership with a contract signed within the previous two years under any WGC collective agreement.

Membership incentive for Feature Film Writers
The Guild offers a limited-time incentive to feature film writers. Under this incentive, any Canadian-resident writer with at least one feature film writing contract signed within the last two years with a Canadian producer is eligible to join the Writers Guild of Canada. As part of this offer, the Guild will waive the $350 initiation fee for those qualified writers. As part of this offer, the Guild will also waive the initiation fee for any writer who qualifies for membership with a feature film contract signed within the previous two years, under any WGC collective agreement.
