August 2022 Script of the Month

Brishkay

August’s Script of the Month, as selected by the WGC IDEA Committee, is Aisha—a dystopian drama written by Brishkay Ahmed.

Brishkay has worked as a screenwriter, playwright, and director in Afghanistan and Canada. She is the writer of the Afghan legal drama series Between You and Me. In Canada, her work includes In the Rumbling Belly of Motherland (Outstanding Feature Award, Reelworld 2022), the Canadian Screen Award-nominated short Fatima In Kabul, and the play Burqa Boutique (Killjoy Theatre). She's currently a resident at the CFC as part of the 2022 Writers' Lab.

“Brishkay’s feature Aisha is an emotional, expertly plotted dystopian drama about capitalism as a force that perpetuates the exploitation of all women — and the lands we inhabit,” says WGC member Celeste Parr, who worked with Brishkay to polish the script. “Brishkay’s vividness of perspective and power of conviction make her a writer to watch, while her openness of mind and generosity of spirit make her a writer to embrace in your writers’ room.”

"Thank you very much for selecting Aisha! I'm grateful to the Writers Guild and my phenomenal mentor, Celeste Parr. As an Afghan-Canadian writer, I write about conflicts within Islamic societies, and I invite you to dive into Aisha's cruel world and meet a good girl who has to do something bad to get something good.”

Congratulations, Brishkay!
