March's Script of the Month

March’s Script of the Month is Shooting the Talent, a half-hour comedy written by Alejandro Álvarez Cadilla. A former principal dancer for an acclaimed ballet company, Alex became an award-winning documentary filmmaker before transitioning into screenwriting. He created Off Kilter, an eight-episode mockumentary currently on CBC Gem.

Faced with no real job prospects during the pandemic, Alejandro became a video editor for prime adult content. Shooting the Talent is inspired by his recent introduction to this industry

"I'm usually afraid when I sit down to read a sitcom script because I always think it's going to be too jokey with no sense of character or story. I was pleasantly surprised when I read Alejandro Cadilla's Shooting the Talent,” says veteran WGC member and Kids in The Hall co-founder, Kevin McDonald, who worked with Alejandro to polish the screenplay. “The humour is character-based and all the characters enlighten the excellent story in the script. Not only did I like it — but I think it might be one of those rare scripts that don't go in the way that you'd expect and would still be commercial and liked by many people if it was filmed."

“I’m delighted to have Shooting the Talent selected as March’s Script of the Month," says Alejandro. "The show is an insider’s take on porn, a billion-dollar industry that has become legit, mainstream entertainment. I am fully committed to making my pilot into a long-running series.”

Congratulations Alejandro!
