October’s Script of the Month, selected by the WGC Diversity Committee is EXALT, a one-hour sci-fi thriller written by Richard Young. Richard is a South Asian (Indo-Caribbean) Canadian screenwriter/actor.
His writing credits include Overlord and the Underwoods (CBC/Nickelodeon), Dino Ranch (CBC/Disney+) and 16 Hudson (TVO). Accolades for Richard's scripts include: ScreenCraft Sci-Fi & Fantasy Writing Competition Finalist Honorable Mention (Top 7 of 2000 submissions), Coverfly Red List, and Just For Laughs ComedyPRO Pitch Finalist.
"Richard Young's EXALT does what the best sci-fi scripts do: explores the present's most pressing issues and themes in a dynamic and thrilling future,” says veteran member, Julian Doucet, who worked with Richard to polish the screenplay. “EXALT ingeniously subverts themes of passing and privilege in an action packed, lore-rich alternate earth with heart, humour, juicy twists and nuanced characters to root for."
"I'm delighted that my sci-fi thriller EXALT is selected for Script of the Month," says Richard. "With this script I'm expanding into the dramatic one-hour space, using this high-stakes story about a telekinetic upper class to explore the grounded reality of systemic oppression."
Congratulations Richard!
