It's come to our attention that there is some confusion over who is eligible to apply to the newly established $2-million CBC Creative Relief Fund for the development and production of new content. As we stated yesterday, it's been reconfirmed that screenwriters who have at least one produced writing credit can apply on their own. You do not need a production company attached.
With reference to scripted projects in particular:
- The Creative Relief Fund team says it's preferable to have either a writer or producer or director credit. You need only one type of these credits. If you do not have those credits, clearly indicate in your proposal how any existing credits you do have would support your projects.
- If you don’t have any credits on any past productions, they suggest you connect with an established producer or production company and obtain a letter of interest to ensure your project can be supported with additional advice and guidance.
- If you're not able to obtain a letter of interest by the deadline, go ahead and submit and then follow up with a letter at a later date.
Additionally, CBC EVP Barb Williams is ultimately overseeing the fund, working closely with CBC GM of entertainment, sports and factual, Sally Catto, and other content heads. The Creative Relief Fund team will be posting an FAQ shortly. We will let you know where to find it as soon as it's posted.
