WGC supports WGA with Toronto rally

Toronto rally

On June 14, 2023, the WGC joined screenwriting guilds and allies around the world for Screenwriters Everywhere—a global day of solidarity and action in support of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

“The Writers Guild of Canada stands in solidarity with the 11,500 members of the WGA who have been on strike since May 2,” says WGC President Alex Levine. “These are global issues. The struggle for fair compensation impacts all screenwriters everywhere.”

WGC members showed their support at a large rally in Toronto. Over 100 people took part, and the crowd included members of ACTRA, the Directors Guild of Canada, IATSE, and the Writers Union of Canada.

WGC members from across the country also took part in a social media campaign using the following hashtags: #ScreenwritersEverywhere, #WGAStrike, and #WGCsupportsWGA.
